Can America and China Trust Each Other?

Chinese-American Author Reveals How China Will Change America

San Francisco, CA— The Chinese president Hu Jintao’s state visit to the U. S. is a sign of strengthening ties between the two countries.  The relationship between the U.S. and China is one of the most important relations in the 21st century and is critical for the world’s stability and prosperity.  Although there are notable differences between the two countries, the leaders of both recognize that the U.S. and China have a lot to gain by working together.  One of the concrete results of the visit is the $45 billion agreement allowing U.S. exports into China, which will create 235,000 jobs in America.

Author Helen Wang says, “In the long run, there will still be issues in currency, human rights, and intellectual property, etc., and there will be ups and downs, but I don’t think the U.S.-China relations will turn into a cold-war kind of confrontation.  It will be a work-in-progress relationship.”

Invite her to answer:

  • Is China America’s worst enemy or best friend?
  • Will China’s growing middle class be a saving grace for America’s economic woes?
  • What are the secrets for U. S. companies to succeed in China?
  • Is it a myth that China is a global manufacturing power?
  • Why should every American student start learning Chinese?

THE CHINESE DREAM Book Launch - A Huge Success

More than 150 people attended my book launch event in Palo Alto on December 10th.  The conference room at DLA Piper law firm was filled with people, enjoying Champaign and fine hors d’oeuvres while networking with each other.

As usual, there are always last minute details that need to be attended to before an event. I was running around to help set up the book signing table, greeting friends who showed up to support me, and answering questions from fans.

As usual, there are always things that don’t work as they are supposed to.  At the last minute, we discovered that the book trailer video, which was supposed to be projected on the background screen, did not work. Oh well.

At about 7 pm, Sara Rauchwerger, the president of Chamber of Commerce International Consortium for Entrepreneurs (CCICE), opened the meeting. Then, Gerald Brady, managing director of Silicon Valley Bank, introduced me and Forbes Beijing Bureau Chief Gady Epstein, who flew in from Beijing to attend the event.

The format of the evening was that Gady and I had a fireside chat about my book and China’s middle class. Continue reading THE CHINESE DREAM Book Launch — A Huge Success

The trend in Chinese consumption is significantly moving upward. Retail spending has increased steadily at 15 percent and more in recent years. Chinese consumer confidence remained high even during the worldwide recession in 2008-2009. China has already become the world’s largest market for automobiles, television sets, and cell phones, and the world’s second largest market for luxury goods.

Walking on the streets of China’s bustling cities, one can easily witness prosperity and the consumer boom. Continue reading China May Become the World’s Second Largest Consumer Market
